St Mary Monknash

typical 12th century Norman Church

example

Although much restored,St Mary's church forms a typical complete Norman church of the 12th century, with the chancel arch and a window dating from that time.  Some of the beams are “reputed” to have come from remains of the armada which were washed up on the nearby beaches! The church belonged to Neath Abbey, with the monastic grange and dovecote remaining in the village near the Plough and Harrow.
