St Giles, Gileston

Manor house church

example

This beautiful, small church, nestling alongside the Georgian style manor house(in private ownership), dates from the 15th century. It is suggested that an earlier church was dedicated to St Mabon leading one to believe that a considerably older church once stood here.

Coincidentally the Giles family held the manor in 1350 and gave their name to the village and the church became dedicated to St Giles. Giles family graves may be found in the pretty churchyard. The south door is unique showing six carved shields and is some 530 years old
